What Fabric Does a Raschel Jacquard Machine Produce

A Raschel Jacquard Warp Knitting Machine incorporates advanced Piezo-Jacquard technology to produce patterned lace, curtain meshes, and decorative home textiles. Among the industry's most widely recognized models engineered by A-ZEN Textile are the classic TH-4/1F (RJPC4F) and the modern TH-5/1F and TH-7/1F smart vertical curtain warp knitting machines.

1. Overview of Raschel Jacquard Fabric Applications

Raschel Jacquard fall-plate machines create distinct three-dimensional (3D) surface relief patterns combined with lightweight ground mesh structures. Key fabric categories include:

  • Smart Vertical Curtains & Blinds: Produced on high-efficiency TH-5/1F and TH-7/1F platforms, featuring functional anti-static, anti-UV, and blackout shading structures.

  • Jacquard Lace & Sheer Netting: Used extensively for premium window curtains, table covers, chair covers, and decorative drapery.

  • Fashion Apparel Fabrics: Breathable Jacquard mesh and patterned lace for outerwear accents and inner linings.

2. Technical Highlights & Mechanical Advantages of A-ZEN TH-4/1F

The TH-4/1F model is the industry standard for Raschel Jacquard fall-plate warp knitting. Its unique mechanical configuration offers several key engineering benefits:

  • Two-Needle Overlap & Enhanced 3D Fall-Plate Effect: The front Piezo-Jacquard elements execute precise two-needle overlaps. When colored or contrast yarns are used on the Jacquard needles, the fall-plate design stands out significantly against the ground net to create a sharp 3D relief.

  • Advanced Connecting Link System (Up to 600 RPM): A-ZEN’s optimized connecting link mechanism stabilizes fall-plate movement, maintaining precise distance from compound needles during high-speed runs. This reduces friction on fall-plate yarns and extends machine operational lifespan while achieving speeds up to 600 rpm.

  • Dynamic Ground Bar Motion: Unlike traditional stationary structures, the ground bars on the TH-4/1F move under overlap and underlap strokes. This space-saving design allows longer pressing time for the fall-plate mechanism, resulting in tighter, higher-density pattern loops.

What’s more, piezo jacquard needles move either in overlap or underlap, so the lapping movement becomes varied, and longer reciprocating lapping movements are possible.

Warp Knitting Structure Simulation

The new advanced connecting link component is applied to TH-4/1F and its improved models TH-5/1F and TH-7/1F. Thanks to that, the machine's speed can reach 600rpm under stable running conditions.

Image 2 indicates the connecting link component. The left is the TH-4/1F structure, and the right is the traditional structure.

The left structure ensures more stable movement of the fall-plate mechanism and keeps the same distance from the compound needles when it is either before or behind the compound needles. Because of this, the fall plate stitch is higher density instead of loose.

Image 3 indicates the fall plate position relative to the piezo jacquard needles.

fall-plate mechanism

It should be pointed out that, because the fall plate position relative to the needles remains nearly the same always, the fall plate and fall plate yarn touch surface become less, and it reduces the friction between them; hence, it increases machine running speed as well as machine running life-span.

Compared with the traditional warp knitting fall plate machine structure, the A-ZEN TH-4/1F Raschel jacquard machine’s ground bars move, and this subtle movement stitches the GB2 bar in different positions under overlap and underlap (see image 4; the black dot presents overlap and underlap yarn lap position).

fall plate movement

This structure saves space for the fall plate and compound. What’s more, because the ground bars move, it leaves more time for the fall plate when pressing yarn and making stitch loops during the overlap process, and the lower looping position makes the ground bars work easier; thus, the same-direction fall plate effect is possible.

When the same-direction fall plate forms, the shogging process starts, so the ground yarn barely touches the fall plate yarn. Fall plate loops shall be under tongue needles when overlapping (see image 5).

It is obvious that the ground yarn (red color) and the fall plate yarn (yellow color) are separate.

3. In-Lay Fabric Effects: Same-Direction vs. Reverse-Direction

The TH-4/1F platform offers specialized control over in-lay patterning logic:

  • Same-Direction In-Lay Effect: Ground yarn and fall-plate yarn overlap in the same direction. This keeps ground loops positioned beneath the needle tongue, preventing yarn interference and creating crisp, clear Jacquard pattern borders (ideal for loops spanning across more than 3 needles).

  • Reverse-Direction In-Lay Effect: Forms an "8" shape texture where loops create a pronounced 3D tail. Because reverse looping makes ground and fall-plate yarns work independently, the pattern texture appears more raised, soft, and textured.

Same direction in-lay effect

Reverse In-lay Effect

Reverse In-lay appears as an “8” form; the looptail makes a 3D effect, while the whole pattern looks unclear and loose. The reason is that this effect is accomplished by both fall plate yarn and ground bar yarn (see image 6).

Because of reverse looping, fall plate yarn and ground yarn are independent; the jacquard yarn is pressed by the fall plate, and the ground yarn gives no interference and is placed in position A. Because the ground yarn stops at the jacquard yarn's backside, the jacquard yarn finds no block at position B, so the fall plate effect looks like an “8” form(see image 7).

The above image shows that the open stitch of the jacquard yarn and the ground yarn move in the same direction; the ground yarn loop tail works on the jacquard yarn. Because of the open stitch, position A receives no pressing force, and so the jacquard yarn and in-lay yarn are combined. This kind of in-lay effect is different from ground bar in-lay alone; it is more suitable for loops across more than 3 needles.
